🌱 20 seconds of insane courage
Movie scene. Crazy origin story. Upstream courage.
Here are your 3 insights in 3 minutes to help you make connections to yourself and the world around you.
⚡ 20 Seconds of Insane Courage
There’s a scene in a random Matt Damon movie, We Bought a Zoo, that everyone should watch. I haven’t even seen the movie, but I LOVE the scene.
Damon’s character describes to his kids how he first met their mom. He stopped by a cafe and knew he had to meet her, but was terrified. So he broke it down to just 20 seconds of courage.
“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”
Check out the movie clip in my post on 20 seconds of courage.
👍“Let’s Do It”
The last words of Utah murderer Gary Gilmore before his firing squad execution in 1977 were "Let's do it."
Advertising exec Dan Wieden later used this as inspiration, pitching Nike on a “Just do it” campaign.
Wieden was in a pinch and needed an idea before a big meeting with Nike. (Spoiler: he won the business)
Takeaway?
Inspiration is everywhere. You don’t need more ideas; you need more deadlines.
🤔 Quote
Courage is upstream of everything.
“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently.”
