🌱 The new attention economy (and what's next)
Million Dollar Weekend takeaways. Book Lauch private party. The “attention” economy.
Greetings from Austin,
Three goodies to feed your brain with distilled insights each week.
đź“– Million Dollar Weekend
Back in 2020, Noah Kagan started writing a book.
I’d get Slack messages like this of him asking for my feedback and thoughts.
I remember reading the Google doc and thinking, “How will this doc ever turn into an actual book?”
But he kept hammering away, getting feedback, and making it better.
This week it was finally published into the world!
I can’t overemphasize the amount of feedback and testing of ideas that went into it. That’s honestly the biggest takeaway.
So it’s crazy, but NOT surprising… to see it trending on Twitter and it hit #22 on Amazon’s overall best-sellers list (and #1 in Entrepreneurship book).
Check out the book Million Dollar Weekend.
As well as my top takeaways working with Noah the last 4 years here.
Side note: cool to see your name in đź“–!
🚀 Book Launch Event
On Tuesday Noah put together a small launch party.
It was a unique way to celebrate/thank/connect with some of those closest to him.
Nick Gray helped organize with activities, a few speeches, and of course name tags.
Check out his short event breakdown video here.
đź‘€ The Attention Economy
Throughout the book process and working on the internet for the last decade, I’ve noticed a shift in attention.
It was wild to see Noah’s book marketing happen primarily through his friends’ solo / owned channels (ex: going on the Tim Ferriss Show, My First Million podcast, Ali Abdaal, etc.)
Not newspapers or magazines, but personal podcasts.
This is representative of our attention.
I’ve seen this trend, but not so perfectly captured in words until I saw this quote by VP of Liquid Death.
Let that sink in for a second.
The feed = attention
Attention = sales
Not just books or beverages, but ALL products.
It’s clear that where “attention goes, money flows.”
I accidentally stayed up until 2am Friday night writing out these examples to highlight why it’s important.
