🌱 New business model (from my favorite independent rapper)
Independent rapper. Segal’s law. Michelangelo.
Here’s your 3 goodies in 3 minutes.
đź’» Independent Bars
Mike is my most streamed artist on Spotify.
But more than his music (he has bangers) I love his business savvy.
He’s fully independent, so owns everything he makes. Aka bootstrapped entrepreneur.
10k people pay him $10 a month for his community = $100k
For zero extra work, he 3x’d his music revenue.
Best part is how this gives him FEEDBACK.
He treats music how Silicon Valley startups treat software... get customer feedback to improve the product.
I’m in his paid community and see the evolution.
Ex: his version of an A/B test:
So he creates the best possible product using direct feedback from his most enthusiastic fans.
The song "put me in the ground" started as a poll in his community and then made it on the album.
Therefore it's not surprising he drops bangers people love. 🔥
Check out my full breakdown post here.
⌚ Segals Law
There’s an old adage:
“A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure.”
It’s called Segal’s Law, which emphasizes information from a single source and the pitfalls of too much information.
The same applies to our daily priorities.
Which is why I love the “Focusing Question” from the book The ONE Thing:
“What’s the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”
🧑‍🏠Work It
It took me a long time to understand this truth:
“If you knew how much work went into it, you would not call it genius.”
The goal isn’t to avoid hard work.
The goal is to put in the work toward relevant skills that get us excited to progress.
In the words of Missy Misdemeanor Elliot work it.
