Greetings from Austin,

Here are three premium goodies to get into the holiday spirit (and of course learn a little something even on vacation)!

🤔 Premium Mediocre

The term “premium mediocre” was coined by @VGR while at a fast-casual restaurant in 2017 with his wife.

It struck something many (myself included) have felt, but didn’t have the words to describe. It instantly made sense to people—without much explanation required. And spread throughout the internet.

It’s “the finest bottle of wine at Olive Garden” as one of many examples described in his original blog post

There's a mystic power in coining terms. It forces crystal-clear thinking

Here’s a GPT prompt worth saving to help crystalize your thinking and communication (regardless of any desire to coin terms).

đź’» Premium Shutdown Routine

Here’s a lesson that took me WAY too long to learn…

The best morning routines, start the night before.

My biggest obstacle has always been shutting down the laptop to get ready for bed. But now I have it scheduled to happen automatically each night. (Gamechanger!)

(Note: For PC users I think you can do this using Windows Task Scheduler).

⚡ Premium Communication

People don’t remember books, articles, podcasts, Zoom meetings, etc.

They remember sentences.

Want to get a point across? Synthesize it down to sentences.

Even “bestselling” books are remembered mainly by a few sentences.

They're packed with punctuality and rhythm:

  • “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." â†’ Atomic Habits

  • "Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things." → The Effective Executive

  • "People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it." → Start with Why

  • "Good is the enemy of great." → Good to Great

Less is more.

Salud,
Mitchell
