I experienced my first Baraat before a friendās wedding in Mallorca last week.
Itās an Indian tradition where family and friends celebrate the groom by dancing with him in the streets as he heads to the wedding venue.
Itās amazing.
I was enthralled from the beginningā¦Especially when they started playing this bhangra remixed with Jay-Z song alongside live drums.
I had to look it up on Spotify afterā¦ banger with 28M streams
But looking around it wasnāt just me. EVERYONE was into it.
Such a pure expression of love and joy. From little kids to the oldest Indian grandpa, each person was dancing and happy.
No one was worrying how they looked or what others were thinking.
Expression > impression.
š Trust me, I love you
This part stopped me when reading Eckhart Tolleās A New Earth the other night.
He explains how parents make silly unconscious assumptions when raising their kids.
Said out loud, it would sound like:
āI want you to achieve what I never achieved; I want you to be somebody in the eyes of the world, so that I too can be somebody through you. Donāt disappoint me. I sacrificed so much for you. My disapproval of you is intended to make you feel so guilty and uncomfortable that you finally conform to my wishes. And it goes without saying that I know whatās best for you. I love you and I will continue to love you if you do what I know is right for you.ā
Many things we do seem rational until we pause, zoom out, and say them out loud.
šŗ We might as well dance
Sometimes the best intentions donāt lead to the desired outcome.
But regardless, itās always a good idea to dance. (bonus if you add Jay-z and live drums)
"We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance."
