Effort arbitrage. The salt test. Experiments.
Hey friends.
This week is about running experiments.
Here are your 3 insights in 3 minutes to bring experiments into your own life.
📽️ Effort Arbitrage
As an experiment last month, we released a video on the AppSumo YouTube channel of a new type of video I created…
For context, the average video on the channel gets 2,000 views and 3 new subscribers.
But this video blew up and got 250,000 views and 4,000 new subs.
Relative to a normal video that’s literally 1333x the subscribers. Bonkers. 🤯
Takeaway?
Run more experiments. (Then double down on what works).
🧂 The Salt Test
Before hiring any new exec, Henry Ford took his candidates to lunch and watched them eat.
Well, more specifically, he was looking to see if they salted their food before tasting it.
If they did, he would NOT hire them.
The “salt test” was his proxy for good decision-making.
He only hired people who first evaluated a situation before taking action.
Reflection: Consider where in your life you may be blindly adding salt, before examining (or running an experiment).
Henry Ford after walking out of a lunch meeting when he saw they prematurely salted (probably)
🥼 Claude Bernard
Claude Bernard was a French physiologist referred to as “one of the greatest of all men of science" and originated the concept of homeostasis.
His secret?
Experimentation.
Observation is a passive science, experimentation an active science.
