Putting this Lao Tzu line to use (read: 40 seconds)
Hola.
Hereās my shortest newsletter yet. (see why below)
š¤ The concept
Every time I go back to this quote⦠It helps me put it to use.
In the pursuit of knowledge, every day something is added. In the pursuit of wisdom, every day something is dropped.
š§¹ Subtraction is a skill
My default is to add.
Another habit, another goal, another tab, another book to read.
But the real skill is to do the opposite⦠remove things.
I was reminded of this concept this week. So I started small.
Tossed a bunch of old shoes into a trash bag to donate. (my gf will like that one!)
That was just the first step to get me going⦠But it kept the concept top of mind.
Then I literally saw it everywhere.
Our default is to always add more, more, moreā¦
Dang, I just noticed last weekās newsletter I even added a 4th bonus section!
But the saying āless is moreā is for good reason.
Just look at the word: subTRACTION. Traction literally lives inside of subtraction.
So this week, to practice this skill (and illustrate the concept), Iām stopping at 2 sections.
Salud,
Mitchell
Ps. What are you subtracting this week? (hit reply let me know)
