🌱 subTRACTION is a skill (see example)

Putting this Lao Tzu line to use (read: 40 seconds)

Hola.

Here’s my shortest newsletter yet. (see why below)

šŸ¤” The concept

Every time I go back to this quote… It helps me put it to use.

In the pursuit of knowledge, every day something is added. In the pursuit of wisdom, every day something is dropped.

- Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

🧹 Subtraction is a skill

My default is to add.

Another habit, another goal, another tab, another book to read.

But the real skill is to do the opposite… remove things.

I was reminded of this concept this week. So I started small.

Tossed a bunch of old shoes into a trash bag to donate. (my gf will like that one!)

That was just the first step to get me going… But it kept the concept top of mind.

Then I literally saw it everywhere.

Our default is to always add more, more, more…

Dang, I just noticed last week’s newsletter I even added a 4th bonus section!

But the saying ā€œless is moreā€ is for good reason.

Just look at the word: subTRACTION. Traction literally lives inside of subtraction.

So this week, to practice this skill (and illustrate the concept), I’m stopping at 2 sections.

Salud,
Mitchell

Ps. What are you subtracting this week? (hit reply let me know)
