Daily commitment stolen from Vince Lombardi (read: 1 min 40 sec)
Hola amigo.
Iām writing this from Barcelona after a run along the beach.
Yesterday was my birthday and Iām still buzzing with love and gratitude. (and un poco espresso!)
š Crossing over the line
Vince Lombardi is considered one of the greatest sports coaches of all time.
But before he won any Super Bowls, he instilled a ritual while coaching basketball. Prior to every practice heād have each player take a pledge.
Everyone stood behind the line while he told them:
āGod has ordained me to teach you young men about basketball today. I want all those who want that training to step across that line.ā
Basically he wanted each player to make a decision each day.
To show up and be committed to practice.
The āzen masterā Coach Phil Jackson used similar tactics and wrote about the power of conscious commitments in his book Sacred Hoops.

š¤ The Daily Decision
When you think about it, we all have access to this daily decision.
Whether itās showing up to practice or a job or anythingā¦Weāre going to show up. The question is HOW.
Hereās a recent example that made it click for me.
Weāre currently traveling in Spain and Portugal for a few weeks.
But 2 weeks before we left, I made a commitment to myself to get 2 weeks ahead of all my work.
(If I canāt take time off my business, then I really just have another job. Itās important to ensure Iām building this biz in an aligned way for me.)
Because of this commitment, each day prior to the trip I showed up, and crossed āthe lineā (aka opening my laptop) but with this intention.
After a few days I was sort of blown away.
Not only was I getting more done⦠but even better, I was riding the momentum of getting ahead and feeling GREAT.
Contrast that with just sort of showing up without any commitment. Huge difference.
I realized this was always available, but not until I made the commitment.
š£ļø Commitment
"The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence."
Coach laid it out simply.
Ball is in your court.
